Johanna Basfords illustration work, Aberdeen never looked so good

Inspired by my upbringing on a small fish farm in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland, much of my work has roots in the flora and fauna that I grew up with. My wandering imagination and passion for drawing took me to Art School in Dundee, where I graduated with a first class honours degree in Printed Textiles in 2005.

I embrace the challenge of a cross disciplinary approach, creating designs and surface patterns for everything from ceramics, album covers, catwalk fashion, beer bottles, wallpaper, wedding stationary and even skin! My ever-growing list of happy customers includes names such as The Crafts Council at the Victoria and Albert Museum, DKNY, The BBC, Channel 4, The Scottish Parliament, Dazed and Confused, Creative Review, Heals, Hallmark, Queensberry Hunt, Hendricks Gin, The Body Shop and Johnson and Johnson.

What a lovely minty moustache

“The Peppersmith name reflects both the Englishness of the mint and the artisan feel of the product,” says B&B Creative Partner Shaun Bowen. “The design has a similar feel, but we’ve had great fun disrupting its seriousness with our moustache icon, which carries across into broader brand communications.

The pack also contains tiny papers for throwing gum away – a reflection of Peppersmith’s mission to overcome the age old problem of gum ending up stuck to pavements.”

David Shrigley's fantastic and downright funny short for Pringle of Scotland

</object>

This is genius, kudos to Pringle for the confidence to do this.
I especially love the design process, all my jumpers are 65% gay

Too much information, give me a Sunday newspaper any day

An ad for the Observer from Wieden + Kennedy in London, seemingly portrays the way we consume news on the TV compared to the relaxation of a newspaper on Sunday. Could easily be about information overload in digital media.

Edinburghs Elph cant half draw

Stumbled on the website of Glasgows Edinburgh artist Elph, not a lot of information about him out there.

But some lovely work, a trip through his blog is well worth it.

Elph draws from a love of comic books and manga/anime, creating a hectic mash up of machinery and spaceships.
If anyone knows of Elph tell me more, or even better, if you know where I can get a print!

Visit Elphs blog Looks like Elphs new site is on the way soon

How the BBC approached the global resdesign

Fantastic article on how the BBC approached the global redesign of their sites.

Simple rules with a set grid structure at the core, flexible yet true to the brand.

However due to the organic way in which the website evolved and the old structure of the business, with dozens of small design teams working independently of each other, the site had a fairly schizophrenic nature once you delved into its depths.

About 2 years ago, after printing out the site onto what has now become jokingly known as the 'Wall of Shame' we decided to embark on an ambitious project, called Global Visual Language 2.0, with the aim of unifying the visual and interaction design of bbc.co.uk and the mobile website.
