9rules Leaf flip!

Reminds me very much of the scottish arts council log of rip-off by quark The Toyota plant in Georgetown, Kentucky must really think 9rules is something nifty, because for their “In the Interest of Women” conference (website/logo here) they took a 9rules leaf, flipped it horizontally and turned it green to celebrate their love! CBGB's closes down

I was following this story for a while. This sucks, it was making money and had lots of support but the owner was an ass and the fix lease was up. It was the birthplace of punk rock, but now after more than 30 years, middle age has caught up with the CBGB club in New York. Overnight the famous rock and roll bar, which launched the careers of groups like The Ramones and Patti Smith, closed its doors. Read more

Zune wont get you laid

Levy: Microsoft has announced its new iPod competitor, Zune. It says that this device is all about building communities. Are you worried? Jobs: In a word, no. I've seen the demonstrations on the Internet about how you can find another person using a Zune and give them a song they can play three times. It takes forever. By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Steve Jobs On Zune WiFi Getting You Laid - Gizmodo

Browser numbers released, IE still losing ground

New browser usage statistics are out for September, and they're showing some interesting changes in browser market share. Internet Explorer, which has been the market share king for many years now, has been falling steadily since the launch of Firefox 1.0 and has now reached its lowest point in over two years at 82.10 percent. Firefox, on the other hand, has been growing steadily, reaching 12.46 percent market share. Safari holds its third place spot, but sees increasing numbers as well at 3.53 percent. Read the story

Infinite Loop: Apple's next browser, Safari 3.0

When Apple releases Leopard, iPhoto won't be the only application getting some help from Google. Safari looks to be including protection against malicious web sites by accessing Google's information on sites it has flagged as possibly dangerous. Several other new features will be included like "Web Clip" to create dashboard widgets from a site and "Web Inspector" to browse the DOM hierarchy from a pop-up window while highlighting the items selected on the page. You can try Web Inspector now by downloading the latest version of Webkit. Infinite Loop: Read more

The Telework Manifesto

I have been working from home for over a month now. So this report this morning was of interest: In the hectic San Francisco Bay Area, it's impossible to drive on the major freeways, especially in the Silicon Valley corridors, between 8 and 11 a.m. and 2 and 7 p.m., because they are all clogged with commuters going to and from work. The Los Angeles basin has the same hours of congestion, with traffic moving even slower, if not outright stopped. This problem is creeping into most metropolitan areas; I have experienced these messes in Seattle, Portland, Oregon, Atlanta, and elsewhere. Though there may be no way to eliminate the problem, it can be reduced a lot by telecommuting, or what is now generally termed telework. But despite high-speed data communications and computers everywhere, society seems hell-bent on avoiding it.
