On my stumbles through design-land this morning I found these great pieces of work. Then I thought, that looks like Charlie that works in the agency Story.

And it was.

Found tinyevil on behance, next time I am chatting to Charlie I will find out who tinyevil is. Damn you behance for giving feck all information on the artists themselves.

Smart H Electrics logo by Tayburn

This logo was created for H Electrics, an Edinburgh-based electrical company ran by Neil Hermansen (hence the ‘H’). It’s picked up a Scottish Design Award, a Bronze at the Fresh Awards and a nomination at the Roses.

One of the nice things about the logo is that not everyone gets it straight away – many see an ‘H’ first then a second or two later, they see the plug and socket/cable connection emerge out of the negative space. We’ve included the logo in a number of presentations to clients and have enjoyed watching their expressions change from a blank look to a smile, as they see the ‘hidden’ image.

Rediculous HP advert - Envy, the technology of luxury

Just walked past this advert for HPs new laptop in terminal 5, made me laugh.

Mostly because the empty marketing speak reminds me of the Zoolander Evian sendup:

Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty

Hanna Viktorsson - Swedish Illustrator and Graphic Designer living in London

A small but pretty portfolio for London based illustrator Hanna Viktorsson
I was mostly interested in her ad-hoc sketches added to blogspot, its something I am on the verge of doing with posterous.

Being an agency designer has a duality, you spend your day doing what you love but often get pulled away form the creativity that brought you there and the exploration that expands your abilities.

The new AOL brand .... interesting

I believe its too early to say whether this is a good brand or not, as it will entirely depend on how they execute it across their marketing and business.

It seems at first that if the logo is that changeable then how can it become a recognisable brand?
This one will pop up in university lecture rooms and design magazines for a while I am sure.

The company turned to Wolff Olins, who previous created logos forWacom(RED), and the London 2012 Olympics. Tim Armstrong, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AOL, said:

“The new AOL brand identity is a simple, confident logotype, revealed by ever-changing images. It’s one consistent logo with countless ways to reveal. The new brand identity will be fully unveiled on December 10, when AOL common stock begins trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

“Our new identity is uniquely dynamic. Our business is focused on creating world-class experiences for consumers and AOL is centered on creative and talented people – employees, partners, and advertisers. We have a clear strategy that we are passionate about and we plan on standing behind the AOL brand as we take the company into the next decade.”

Although the AOL logo itself will be constant, the backgrounds will change continuously in an effort to suggest the breadth of AOL’s content.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society goes unconventional

Great work from our neighboring agency Story.

Seems so strange to see such bright modern imagery on a Whisky Society bottle.
They are very limited edition go get a move on.

The Far Flung Flavours are three new bottlings which have been chosen as they represent some of the most exciting and unusual taste experiences available from the Society. Each eye-popping limited-edition illustration is representative of the weirdly wonderful tastes and scents of the curious single malt within.”

Our journey takes us to a special trio belonging to a tribe never before seen in these parts. Their clothing is unusual yet alluring; their tastes and aromas speak a different language.

These are the Far Flung Flavours – guaranteed to surprise and delight all that have the pleasure of crossing their path. As with any epic expedition places are extremely limited, with only enough set supplies for just thirty members.

The teens speech - this year the teenagers are addressing the nation

</object>

A simple idea well executed.
Poke have made the site for Barnados with the help of the nations teenagers.

On Christmas Day 2009 we're letting the teenagers of UK address the nation.

So, after lunch, instead of turning on the telly, visit the homepage of MySpace and see what our country's teenagers have to say about the state of the nation.

Over the next two months we're asking 13-19 year-olds to share their views and upload videos across a range of serious subject matters. The best uploads will in incorporated into the final film.

D&AD Student design awards - have a look at the briefs

Open briefs this year from some great brands:

  • Westfield
  • The BBC
  • Channel 4
  • Orion
  • IKEA

Check out the website

Our awards programme is embedded in curriculums in over 1,000 colleges and courses around the world

The D&AD Student Awards programme is, in essence, the design and advertising communities award for those looking to break into the industry.

In putting together this programme we aim to do two things: Firstly, find the best new talent for the industry, and secondly, to put creativity high on the agenda in the higher and further education curriculum. We look to do both of these things on a global level.
